Alberta Parks, Fish Creek Provincial Park

Sikome Aquatic Facility

I worked at Sikome Lake Aquatic Facility as a visitors service attendant for the summers of 2018 and 2019. My job there consisted of taking admissions, informing patrons about the facility, and giving patrons information about Fish Creek Provincial Park. This job really helped build my communication and teamwork skills, all good things for other jobs in the future. My favourite part of the job was being able to be outside in Fish Creek Park and being able to educate other people about the park. Examples of this would be informing patrons of the amenities of Fish Creek like walking trails, bike paths, and boating activities. We would also make posters containing some information about the plants and animals that could be found within Fish Creek Park. On slower days a smaller team with a supervisor would often go out of the facility and walk along the trails of Fish Creek to see some of the features of the park, so we could give patrons better information about those sites. These sites included Hull’s Woods, Bow Valley Ranch, and lookout areas within the park. I loved this job as I learned a lot about the area I was working in and got a chance to educate other people about it. The job definitely deepened my love for natural spaces within our cities and how big of a part they play on conserving our wildlife and their natural habitats.
